Cooking rice on a stovetop seems like a hard task, however if you follow the water to rice ratio and follow the steps, you will never use a rice cooker again.
White Rice with Onion and Bell Pepper

2 cup long grain rice
2 1/2 cups water
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 bell pepper, chopped (you can use any color)
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tsp of salt
Directions
- Prepare the onion, garlic and bell pepper by finely dicing them.
- Heat oil in a soucepan over medium-high heat. Cook and stir onion in the hot oil until tender, about 3 minutes. Add garlic and continue to cook and stir until onion is translucent, 2 to 3 minutes more. Stir bell pepper into mixture; cook until tender, about 3 minutes.
- Add rice to saucepan and stir until rice starts getting a golden color.
- Add water and salt, bring water and salt to boil. Reduce the heat to lowest setting, cover rice cover the pan with a tight fitting lid, and simmer for 10 minutes.
- After the 10 minutes have passed turn off the stove and let the rice rest covered for 10 more minutes without removing the top.
- Remove top and fluff rice with a fork.
